Our Environment

Pacific Personnel Australia, (PPA), has made a strong commitment to environmental best practice and the prevention of pollution and wastage in office management and general operations. In consultation with industry professionals we have developed a process of continual improvement with the intention of developing an ongoing policy that allows PPA to lead the personnel sector in efficient and effective environmental office practices.

Objective:

Through our philosophy of maintaining a sustainable business we will:

• Identify and manage our environmental footprint, and the associated risks and opportunities;
• Incorporate environmental management considerations into our core business plans and management practices;
• Minimise waste-to-landfill and greenhouse gas emissions;
• Further reduce our consumption of power, water and natural resources;
• Employ environmental considerations in purchasing decisions;
• Regularly monitor and report on our environmental performance;
• Continue to identify new areas for improved performance;
• As a minimum, comply with applicable legal requirements, relevant Government policies and our environmental management plans;
• Actively promote and encourage the adoption of ecologically sustainable work practices and operations within our organisation and the general community;

Our Practices

Office Equipment

• Endeavour to switch off all non essential office equipment off at the power point.
• The Photocopier has:
  • An "energy saver" mode, whereby it turns itself off when not in use for a certain period of time;
  • Low energy consumption during the use of the machine;
  • An innovative and energy efficient toner;
  • Document software and digital technologies that help reduce paper waste, save costs and reduce carbon emissions; and
  • Electronic Faxing with all incoming faxes diverting to a folder on the server, as opposed to printing. This feature reduces paper wastage especially when receiving multiple junk faxes each day;
• Approximately one third of PPA’s staff members use laptops, which are more energy efficient than desktop computers;
• Photocopier is serviced regularly to maintain its efficiency;
• PPA has a Planet Ark Collection box for used print cartridges, once the box is full it is collected and the cartridges are recycled;

Paper

• PPA staff members avoid unnecessary printing;
• Print settings are set to black and white and double sided to make printing more environmentally friendly;
• When printing for office use only, PPA has a printing tray dedicated to recycled paper;
• PPA has a recycling bin and secure document shredding bin that is collected monthly;
• Lighting is switched off when a room is not in use and when the last person leaves the office at night;
• PPA has plants throughout the office, which can act as a natural air filter;
• Blinds are kept open throughout the day to provide as much natural light as possible, therefore reducing the use of lights;
